    places for midwifery

Is anyone who has a place for midwifery had their place defered to following year due to lack of places? My friend has had her interview but was told if offered place she would not be able to start to sept 2012 or even jan 2013. This is worrying for us that are applying for 2012 intake. If this is case we may not be able to start to 2013. Anyone know more about this? X

there have been a few people I went through the interviews with that had their place deferred, though as others have been choosing their other choices etc, they have been moved to 2011. I don't think the numbers being deferred are that high.

If someone gets deferred does that place come out of the numbers for next year or do they have a few extra to cater for those who have been deferred?

    Re: places for midwifery

Only in exceptional circumstances I think as it limits the places for the following year I think.

I have even heard some uni's saying no you can't defer simply because the course is so sought after, if you can't commit then well you don't get your place!

Maybe something a like a sibling dieing just before you start?

I know pregnancy used to be classed as exceptional circumstances but i'm not sure if it does anymore.

I think all unis are different. Some are more compassionate than others and in all honesty you have to treat your place with such delicacy. If you delay by 6/12 months what is likely to change? That would be the question that will be asked...how wil you cope better by delaying.

Some Unis do not 'do' deferring. You have to give up your place completely.

in our area the two universities that have big intakes (60+) are birmingham and Wolverhampton... so they are your best bet of getting a place revise your maths for Wolverhampton test though its not easy.... Wolves also often have clearing places too...

    Re: places for midwifery

It's basic maths for most universities. These tests/questions can obviously not be published on the internet. This would give massive problems for anyone connected with it!

Suffice to say fractions, ratios, small elements of algebra etc may very well be brought up!

    Re: places for midwifery

i would spend some time with some second hand GCSE revision books i sat two maths tests during the interview process at different universities and the wolves one was by far the hardest, having said that it was approx. GCSE level and i have no idea what the percentage that you needed to get right to pass was. they need to make sure you would be able to perform drug calculations safely. its not so scary and i did pass without preparing but i would have liked a heads up that i needed to prepare I was ridiculously confident following the other interview i had with a mats test because the previous test was so easy!! Im not trying to scare you im sure you will be fine just spend some time preparing

Ironic tho that I ended up finishing with the cohort I was supposed to be starting with!!

    same here I hope !!
