humm I think you are supposed to be confused when i first read it i thought that it was bad news for people with children however it does appear that the dependents allowance will not be affected. I dont know however if there will still be a " single parent allowance" or a " adult learning allowance" or any other extras that were bundled in before. It appears that everyone will get at least £1000 but it is bad news for nurses. There will no longer be the non means tested bursary above the £1000 for nurses we will all have the same system, the one we are used to except the £1000 sweetener. Basically the nurses will now have the system we have become accustomed to. I presume that this had had to happen because the NHS will still pay the tuition fees, and with the tuition fees dramatically increasing the money had to come from somewhere or places on courses would have needed to be cut... so it appears that they did the maths and decided to take the money away from nurses. £1000 isn't even going to cover most peoples fuel to and from placement but at least its better than a kick in the teeth. I wonder how this will affect applicants for nursing? and therefore nursing levels.
