Breast feeding is supposed to be one of the most natural things in the world, along with sex and child birth. The course of history and the rise of a patriarchal society has dictated that women should not enjoy having sex (these beliefs are still evident in much of the world) and while we all enjoy babies how many women can say they 'enjoy' giving birth to them? But how many of us dare say that we don't enjoy breast feeding those babies?
I originally began researching this almost two years ago when I found myself pregnant with my youngest daughter. I had a 3A tear from my first birth which was a huge contributing factor in me developing PTSD so I was vey unsure of how another vaginal birth would effect me, both physically and psychologically. I turned to the internet to solve my problems and spent hours looking for scientific research that would determine whether I should have a vaginal birth or cesarean section. I encountered the same problem then as I did when I resumed research this week: a woeful lack of information.
The word ‘midwife’ means ‘with-woman’. It doesn’t specify the gender of the person who is with the woman.
