I had my interview for volunteering on the Maternity Wards last week and was asked where I'd like my placement, either in a Birthing Centre or in the hospital. I asked if I could do a few months in one and then a few months in the other so that I can get a taste of both and see how they differ. I'm so excited but now have to wait for my CRB check and Occupational Health checks to come back. I hope it doesn't take too long :0)
It would be great if they could let you experience both so you can compare them and it will give you a more rounded view of midwifery, but if I had to opt for one over the other then I would go with the birth center. Even though I've never had a natural birth, I am a fan and advocate natural birth where I can.
I've seen enough of hospitals after my 2 c-sections lol.

I would love to become an Independent Midwife and so love the idea of homebirths, hypnobirthing, water births etc. I want to be able to educate women in their birth choices and help them to understand that their body knows how to birth their baby and to trust it. Who knows where Independent Midwifery is heading though. 2013 is approaching fast and there are many IM's out there, waiting to hear their fate.
Leah if you want to know anything about being an IM, ask delilah she was an IM until very recently, I'm sure she'd answer any questions you have.

That's brilliant, Thank you. I've googled Independent Midwives and messaged a few who have been kind enough to invite me to their monthly meetings, so I am learning more and more about it each time I attend these. They have been so welcoming and I am truly grateful for any information that anyone can offer on all aspects of Midwifery.
This site will be invaluable :0)
