By the end of the workshop participants will have had an opportunity to:
define and explain the DoH guidelines, and have an appreciation of how to apply them
to mothers who may have different feeding choices
explore the importance of being client-centered and maintaining support for ALL
mothers, including those who do not breastfeed, those who switch to formula and
those who use formula alongside breastfeeding
cite research and define effective practice and support
recognise cultural and other influences on mothers which might pose challenges to
following the guidelines
recognise the influences on health professional colleagues which might also pose
challenges
create practical strategies to ensure consistency of support and information for
mothers
work together with health professionals from different disciplines, managers and
volunteers
evaluate and develop local breastfeeding support training and programmes
