By the end of the workshop participants will have had an opportunity to:
 define and explain the DoH guidelines, and have an appreciation of how to apply them
to mothers who may have different feeding choices
 explore the importance of being client-centered and maintaining support for ALL
mothers, including those who do not breastfeed, those who switch to formula and
those who use formula alongside breastfeeding
 cite research and define effective practice and support
 recognise cultural and other influences on mothers which might pose challenges to
following the guidelines
 recognise the influences on health professional colleagues which might also pose
challenges
 create practical strategies to ensure consistency of support and information for
mothers
 work together with health professionals from different disciplines, managers and
volunteers
 evaluate and develop local breastfeeding support training and programmes
