The most challenging part of applying for a midwifery course, is the personal statement. It needs to contain so much but, in such a short space.

Don’t rush it, start off with good preparation. Visit the forums, research the role of the midwife and think carefully about why you want to be a midwife.

Bear in mind any information you have collated from University open days or topics you have discussed with members of our forum. Find out about midwifery news and changes in maternity care.

Draw a diagram with midwifery in the middle, list around it the qualities you think need to be considered in midwifery, and then next to them, state why you are the best candidate and give good reasons why.

Get some advice on it; ask on the forums, ask your parents, teachers, lecturers and friends.

NEVER post your personal statement on the internet, it leaves you wide open to plagiarism. ALL PERSONAL STATEMENTS ARE PUT THROUGH A SIMILARITY DETECTION TEST, if you either copy or have your statement copied it is serious.

Make another draft, don’t be frightened to come back and ask for more advice, we’re here to help you and guide you through it!

Remember your word/line limit!

Make your final statement, sit back and finish you application.

If you are successful and get an interview (yay!), please ensure you read your personal statement through again, you may be asked questions on it.
