We've said we would be happy to check personal statements and offer any advice for FREE, which we are happy to do but instead of PMing them one member we are going to share the workload between us so we can give better directed advice.

To do this we've set up a form which allows you to directly submit your personal statement to us to a secret little forum (so your personal statements are safe) where we can read and put together feedback for you. Its a lot easier than PMing it to one member and them having a huge workload when we can spread it out between us!

I hope you like this change and make use of it, afterall it is free.

We WON'T tell you what to write but will give you pointers on structure, content and the usuals like spelling and grammar.

So to submit your PS you will need to be a registered member of the site and can click on the link at the top of the site 'PS Checking' or just click this link - http://www.midwiferyonline.co.uk/misc.php?do=form&fid=7

I have only just set this up so please let me know if it doesnt work lol.

Please rest assured that your personal statements are safe with us, we will never sell or give anyone your personal statements.

Please note: By looking at your personal statement does not mean we will guarantee you a place for interview, we can only help and of course you can disregard our comments and stick with your original PS.

Please note: We do NOT charge for this service but if you feel we have helped you and you would like to show your appreciation you can always make a donation towards the site, of course this is not required. You can make donations via paypal to admin@midwiferyonline.co.uk

We have added a minimum post limit for PS checking of 5 posts.

So to be able to post a PS for review you will need to have 5 posts on the forum, this was done to make it fair on all our users as to not have just people come to the site and ask for a PS review with no intention of participating which in turn bumps up the turn around times for regular members using the site and PS service.

For those who have submitted their PS for review who don't have 5 posts, this isn't aimed at your personally just something I didn't think about i.e for next year. Also if you have already submitted your PS we will still happily look over it for you with no limit to how many times we will and that goes for everyone.

I hope everyone understands.

Please Note: That spamming the board with unhelpful and pointless posts to just reach the minimum 5 post count will not be tolerated and your PS statement will not be looked at, it defeats the object of what we are trying to prevent to just sign up, spam the board and then submitting your PS.

I cannot say enough good about this incredible service. I have been in touch with Dappy and Delialh dozens of times (yep really!) about my PS and they have never failed to come back to me with incredible feedback. i now have a PS which I know speaks truthfully and accurately about me and why I want to study Midwifery. it explains why I am an ideal candidate without begging or appearing cocky. I have been absolutely bowled over by the service this site has provided and I just want to wish everyone in the same boat as me all the very best for UCAS and beyond. The biggest thanks ever to Midwifery Online - you bloody rock!! :D

Aw shucks Lesley, you'll make us blush :)

Dappy

I have had to add an addition to the first post. Please don't spam the board to just reach your 5 minimum posts, this isn't fair.

hi is it too early to start doing my PS ????? x x :crying:

Dappy
27-02-12, 07:28 PM
Don't be daft, we've had two submitted for checking in the last 7 days lol.

Dappy
27-02-12, 07:30 PM
It can take a while to write a really good PS, so it's better to have the time to be able to go over it and edit it without having to rush it.

MrsBanks
27-02-12, 07:54 PM
I started planning my PS about 3 years before my application  it's never too early :)

I've started mine and sent it in twice already. When i contacted college for help they basically said stop panicing there's loads of time. I think its better to be organised early rather than rushing last min! Thankyou for an amazing service here the support is amazing xxx

Just wanted to say what a great service this is your offering, I am struggling with my personal statement at the moment, so will certainly be looking forward to sending mine in to be checked once I have reached my 5 post minimum, (oh once i complete drafting it aswel) lol x

Alexandra1
04-06-12, 09:11 PM
This forum is full of everything! I think it is great that you are offering a personal statement checking service, really helpful as I am dreading writing mine and it isn't easy finding people to help!

Faerie
06-06-12, 09:39 PM
Just had my ps reviewed, and I am really chuffed with the suggestions and general advice. Sometimes there is something obvious you need to change on your ps, but you can't see it, and that's where a fresh pair of eyes can really help! Really recommend the Midwifery Online team. :) x

Dappy
06-06-12, 09:47 PM
Thanks for your feedback Faerie.

We try to give really detailed feedback to those who need it and sometimes its just a case of highlighting a few points. :)

Just put my first draft in wooooo hoooo! How long does it roughly take to hear back xxx

Dappy
11-06-12, 08:36 PM
A couple of days usually as we all like to read it over and have an input. :)

Cherrycake
11-06-12, 08:47 PM
Yahhhh how will i know when youve looked ect email? Im actually a little excited to see what the experts think :) xx

Cherrycake
11-06-12, 08:48 PM
Oh just read it email im so dumb lol! xxxx

Dappy
11-06-12, 08:51 PM
We normally PM it to you here.

Where does it say email as I'll have to change that lol

Cherrycake
11-06-12, 08:53 PM
It doesnt i made it up! Once again dumb moment you send inbox which i changed to email! Im blaming tiredness! x

Cherrycake
13-06-12, 04:06 PM

Dappy
13-06-12, 04:08 PM
Your have it tonight :)

Delilah
13-06-12, 04:08 PM
I don't think anyone on here thinks you are annoying! Apologies - i have been lost in tax returns and work - but, will get to doing your PS in a minute!!! :D

Cherrycake
13-06-12, 05:11 PM
Yahhh im mega excited or mb i shouldnt be lol! You may think its horrendous lol! Thanks so much for looking over it! xxx

Delilah
13-06-12, 05:39 PM
It's no problem - a couple of the other girls will give their input and we'll send it to you asap. On a side note NO personal statement is rubbish - it's personal to you! Also no personal statement is 100% spot on either.

Dappy
13-06-12, 05:42 PM
Delilah is spot on, there is NO perfect PS as they are all individual but we can give you tips here and there and point out anything obvious.

The amount of time I've written something, read it over and re-read it but yet I still have mistakes. Sometimes it's just takes a different set of eyes to point these things out.

That's us! :D

Unregistered
13-06-12, 05:45 PM
I no what you mean. I do that with my dlc work do it leave it check it a few days later i always find mistakes that way xx

Dappy
13-06-12, 09:07 PM
Check your PMs Cherrycake

Cherrycake
13-06-12, 09:11 PM
Thanks Dappy have done.... I will work on it once i have revised can i send it back to you? x

Dappy
13-06-12, 09:13 PM
Yeah either PM it back to me or resubmit it via the form, either way. You have your very own thread now hidden away so we will just merge your next revision into that thread :)

Cherrycake
13-06-12, 09:15 PM
I feel deflated about the situation i used that p.s last time, i got 5/5 interviews then i withdrew from the whole process i no times more on :( arrrggghhhh! start again x

Dappy
13-06-12, 09:21 PM
Don't feel deflated it's all constructive. The standards of PSs are increasing all the time, competition is getting fiercer and fiercer.

I feel bad now!

Cherrycake
13-06-12, 09:25 PM
NOOOOOOO dont feel bad im just a little over sensitive atm (personal problems) I no it needs work its just a draft i thought of some more bits i wanted to add anyway. I look over it and send it back when iv had time to make some adjustments as you said your another pair of eyes :)

Dappy
13-06-12, 09:28 PM
It's cool! I remember how it feels having someone look over your PS.

I hope your ok though..?

It's such a tricky thing to do on our behalf as you don't want to rip someone's PS to shreds but then you don't want to butter coat it as your not doing them any favours.

Ah the balance lol!

Cherrycake
13-06-12, 09:42 PM
no i do apperciate it i really do. I had a s**t few week so been well emotional and im at that point where half the day i feel so positive and excited by it but the next i just dont feel good enough or im doing enough or im scared to get rejected ect xxx

Dappy
13-06-12, 09:48 PM
Thats what I call midwifery limbo, you don't know whether your coming or going its bloody well horrible!

We are all here if you need to vent :) the system and application process can be so frustrating!

LozO
15-06-12, 09:50 PM
Would someone be able to have a look over my PS?

Dappy
15-06-12, 09:55 PM
LozO you need to have five posts on the forum before you can submit your PS for review. This is to stop people just registering just to get their PS checked.

Once you've reached five posts, a form will become available for you to submit your PS to us, we will then of course look it over for you :)

Kimmie
20-06-12, 06:42 PM

Dappy
26-07-12, 10:11 AM
Due to our workload at the moment the minimum requirement for being able to post a PS for review has risen to 20 posts. This is also to stop people abusing the free service we offer, it's meant to be a 'bonus', something a 'little extra' that we offer our regular users.

Dappy help me - I am meant to start my work experience Sept/Oct time. I wanted to get my UCAS form in early, so would it be ok to say what I will be doing and learning on the experience, or should I wait until I have started so I can say that I have actually done it, if that makes sense :/

Dappy
21-08-12, 08:57 PM
Do you have any other sort of experiences under your belt? If so then it's fine to say 'I have arranged a work experience opportunity at the hospital Bla bla, where I hope to learn'...

out in that you've arranged it and what you hope the experience will give you and what you hope to learn. Shows your being proactive.

Delilah
22-08-12, 08:02 AM
I agree here, get your form in - indicate that you're going to do it and then you've got some good things to share at interview! Just demonstrate that you have good skills referring to something else!

Dappy
22-08-12, 09:30 AM
Also for those who are just starting to draft their PS, I am in the process of developing some worksheets and guidance on mind mapping topics to go within your PS and putting transferrable skills together.

Miss Duke
22-08-12, 12:10 PM
Thanks Dappy and Delilah. I already have non-maternity related hospital exprience and a few other things

Delilah
22-08-12, 02:03 PM

I think I may actually be finished!!! I have tweaked and added the changes suggested, just submitted for its last (hopefully!) review :D I'm actually feeling pretty happy with it, which is a feat in itself as a couple of weeks ago I was even considering just not bothering as it just wasn't coming together. Thank you so much Midwifery Online!! :D

Dappy
04-09-12, 09:37 PM
Did you get interviews? I got an interview with my very first PS and kept that and used it the other three times, updating it and changing/adding new work experiences etc accordingly.

So yes you can do that.

I have sent my PS for checking. I'm really don't know how to put my study days in etc... I need to take 70 characters out but I want to put study days in but I like the content. So stressful, I have worked on this since last year :( and I'm entering it onto UCAS this week x

I've just done feedback on the first PS out of the two you posted. I was just waiting on the others to add their comments.

If you send this one in then we will scrap the others as it just gets confusing. :)

This yr??? Thats brilliant!

Dappy
12-09-12, 02:19 PM
Na not Just this year, but we started late with the PSs last year I think. To be fair it's probably about 120 PSs as I only counted the threads but in reality a lot of the threads have multiple reviews within each if that makes sense!

We've done a lot more this year than we did last, but then we weren't really known about much last year.

Runrig
12-09-12, 03:08 PM
I think once i have finished mines u can count me to be looked at. lmao

That's great though, your ideas are really coming through :)

MrsBanks

Runrig if you are struggling with yours you can send it in draft form. We will only be able to give a few pointers at a draft stage but if you are stuck it might help

There will be a delay in the turn around time for any current PSs in and any submitted over the next two weeks.

We are really busy collating and sending feedback from the preparing for your midwifery interview days, one we've just done last Saturday and we have another to come next Saturday. Plus our lives inbetween!

We will get them out ASAP.

Goodness me its all come round so quickly its hard not to get overwhelmed! It seems like only a short while ago that I was a little girl with aspirations of becoming a midwife and now its time to start applying! I would like to say a big thank you to the team who came to my college last weekend, the day was very interesting and they gave us loads of support in all aspects of applying for midwifery, especially personal statement writing! Thanks again team! :D

Hi

Are you still offering this at the moment Dappy? I am applying for a course at the moment where entry is direct to the University and would really appreciate someone just casting an eye over it for spelling, grammar and waffle. Sometime when you look at things for so long you don't see them ....lol :)

Thanks
