HELP!!!!!
I am desperately trying to get some work experience. I have tried all routes. I have been into my local hospital and spoke to the midwives and assistants, I am in contact with an independent midwife, I have emailed and phoned several other hospitals within 2 hours of my home...and still not really had much luck.
Any tips?
Also, I am struggling to get down what I want to say on paper. Is anyone else having problems?
My main issue is every Uni open day I have been to has said not to put that you want to be a midwife because 'you have had kids yourself'.... but this, in my case is true... It was only when I fell pregnant with my son that brought it to the forefront and made me realise that this is what I want to do with my life. Do you think I should say this is the reason in brief then expand on what I have learnt from then? I am getting frustrated with it now. I have been doing this since May. :(
Thanks Bec :/

Hey hun, have u looked at nursing assistant, or healthcare jobs rather than only midwifery related. As i was told by one of my uni options, experience in any field of care will help but working in the relevant area is not a requirement for the course.
I work as a 'bank' nursing assistant and I love it. I dont work on the same wards all the time - but now i have been doing it 6 months I can train on the wards I really wanna be on, such as the maternity services! I'm not doing it for my application - im just checking it what I really want to do - but im 100% positive I will love it!
I was also told with regards to u being told not to include u have had a baby - thats waffle! As one of the reasons I didnt get in was because I was 19 and didnt have a child! however my friend who does have a baby got in.
Good luck with it.
Carry on taking your time! Keep getting it checked. Im not a genius on it , but if u want me to proof read it when ur done I will x

Having children is what inspired me to become a midwife, but it's not the reason why i wanted to be a midwife. I wanted to be a midwife to care for women and their family, support them through a vulnerable special time in their lives. It's all the way you look at it :D
Work experience does not need to be just 'midwifery' related. There are loads of professions that have the element of communication skills that midwives need. Anything in customer relations, bar work, health carers be that hospital or community based. Any job where you have to have direct contact with Joe public will work!!
Learning to put someone at ease, before performing a very intimate procedure.....you need skills, some have a natural ability and some need to learn - but it is achievable.
Also, a lot of experience can be paid work. There are no extra points for doing it for free!!

My own personal journey to parenthood ignited my interest and set me challenges that have led me to applying for midwifery........
I think you should be honest in writing your PS..... go with your own feeling.

Also, to add to work experience, bar work and waitressing..... I think are great ways to get your communication skill. Especially if your feet are killing you from standing all day/night, you have to be nice to the most god awful customers (the customer is always right) then you haven't had a drink and a pee all shift. Great experience.

Thanks for the words of wisdom people. I think I am over thinking things a little. My passion should shine through. I have done all sorts of work, from bar and waitressing to working in the community as a carer. I have managed to secure some work exp in Liverpool Women's so I think that should be enough. I just hope they like me. :)
i have 4 years experience in this field.................
